We'd been running SUS surveys in our alpha program for almost two years. We trusted the signal. The question became whether we could extend that same rigor to production customers and what we'd learn when we did.

What started as a relatively small interaction change became an interesting lesson in user trust, speed, and how different teams can approach the same problem differently.

Roomba's cleaning intelligence already adapts based on dirt and room type. This project gave it something new: context. By bringing household composition into the decay model, we made personalization real: not just a setting, but a behavior change.

We made a major update to the Roomba Home app that brought together navigation, reliability, and repeat behaviors into a cohesive, user-driven release. This work focused on turning long-standing themes from user feedback into clear, everyday experiences at scale.

As iRobot's suite of products expand beyond floorcare, and we work towards a home centric app, it has become increasingly important to be intentional about how we leverage our mapping capabilities — Our current maps have a lot of elements, and as we expand our product lines and features they’ll have even more.
